The Year 2020 will mark the beginning of a “decade of delivery” in education – with ten years left to meet the sustainable development goal of promising every child a good education by 2030.
With the world continuing to drift away from meeting this target the Varkey Foundation has decided to undertake a strategic review on how it can make the greatest difference to help achieve these milestones. The focus necessary for this review means that we will no longer be convening the GESF in Dubai in March 2020 as we take the time to work out how best to use our energy to bring about change in the most effective way.
Central to our review will be ensuring that the teacher voice is heard in this debate and we are therefore committed to ensuring the Global Teacher Prize will go ahead in 2020 and beyond with renewed purpose. We will even look to move the prize ceremony around the world, spreading the message deeper into new host countries, and making the prize’s reputation live up to its name as a true global celebration of teachers.
We will once again extend a hand as we continue with our shared mission to do whatever it takes to give teachers the respect that they are owed and finally give every child their birthright: a great education.
